The window is shut! Who left the other one open?
So the transfer window has slammed shut and as expected, Airdrie United supporters are up in arms over the lack of signings. I must admit that I am disappointed. I had hoped that after seeing THAT freekick on Wednesday that we would have swooped at the last minute to sign that boy Ronaldo. Once again though, it seems the board has let us down and he’ll be staying put at Old Trafford.
Seriously guys, the transfer window means absolutely nothing to us. We can still bring in players who are not contracted to clubs and we can still bring in loan players. Lets be honest, who else were we going to be signing?
It should be fairly obvious that the people we bring in would have been effected had we beaten Kilmarnock and earned the £200,000 from playing Celtic tomorrow. Therefore, it would have been stupid to bring in a midfielder for example, then realize had we been patient we could have brought in someone better. That left us with only 3 days to complete a deal once we knew we were out which realistically isn’t a lot of time.
Without the money from a Cup run, we simply don’t have money to invest. A quick look around the ground on a Saturday should tell you that. Two players have left (Sharp and Dosser) and two have came in (Andreoni and Campbell). I believe that we will add to the squad over the next week. We still have plenty of options.
Without even considering the possibility of a loan switch, the following names are all possibilities. David Winters has just been released from Hamilton and is being strongly linked with us by Accies fans. Willie McLaren has been released from St Johnstone and is available, as is Ian Harty who has allegedly been training with us.
With regards Allan Russell, I’ll be disappointed if he goes because he’s been brilliant this season but if someone offered you a chance to jump two divisions and increase your wages what would you do? With regards the club accepting an offer for him, I don’t know how much the bid was so I’m not going to comment on that. What I will say is Killie lost Nish at the last minute so were probably pretty desperate and offered generously, but I’d be disappointed if we accepted a smaller fee for him.
If you’re sitting moaning about the lack of signings then have a think about the reality - get your mates along to the games and support the club starting tomorrow and maybe we’ll be a bit more active on the Sky Sports news ticker next January.
