Brechin City 2 - 1 Airdrie United
Airdrie United surrendered the league title to Ross County after yet another poor performance at Glebe Park. Despite taking a third minute lead after some nice work from Graeme Holmes was finished off by Stuart Noble, Airdrie were outfought for last spells of the game and Brechin deserved the three points.
Yet again, Airdrie failed to turn up in a game that may not have had much significance in the title picture, but has seen Raith Rovers catch us on points and allowed Brechin - who have taken 9 points from 12 against us - into the playoffs at the expense of Alloa.
A missed penalty from Noble at 1-1 could have made the final result different but it would have been missing the point. All too often Airdrie have failed to turn up in terms of attitude, spirit and hunger and that’s why we’re now aiming for a playoff when we were told at the start of the season the league title was our target. The fans see this lack of hunger from the players and it is the main reason why attendances are so low.
Unfortunately, the buck must stop with Kenny Black. Yet again, he gave his customary “the players didn’t give enough” speech which I assume the Sunday Mail writer just copies and pastes. This is the same Kenny Black who can’t wait to snipe at the “doom and gloom” merchants who have the nerve to criticise (or point our facts about) his team.
In my opinion, we will not win the playoffs. I genuinely hope I’m wrong because I would much rather see a successful Airdrie United side with Kenny Black as manager than anyone else. However, the playoffs must be make or break for Kenny. If he can’t raise the team for these matches (and lets be honest, he didn’t last year) then he should go back to being a coach - a role which I am convinced he’ll be excellent at.
I hate to single people out but this season has been absolutely awful - the worst in recent memory and the buck must stop with the manager unfortunately ![]()
