Allan Russell signs pre-contract with Kilmarnock
Airdrie United manager Kenny Black has confirmed in this weeks Airdrie Advertiser that striker Allan Russell has signed a pre-contract agreement with SPL side Kilmarnock. The former Hamilton, St Mirren and Partick Thistle striker had been set to sign for Jim Jefferies men moments before the end of the transfer deadline last week but Airdrie were unable to agree a fee with the Rugby Park outfit.
However, it has now been confirmed that the striker will play for Kilmarnock in the 2008-09 season. While Russell’s move was perhaps inevitable, the good news is that Airdrie will continue to benefit from his abilities for the remainder of the season. He has established himself as a crucial figure in Airdrie’s fight for promotion and is the clubs leading goalscorer as well as a favourite for Player of the Year.
Anyone questioning if his heart is still with the club after signing his pre-contract with Killie need not worry as Allan gave a truly professional performance in last weeks 3-0 victory over Raith Rovers at New Broomfield.
