Airdrie United vs Cowdenbeath Match Preview
Airdrie United will (hopefully) tackle Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night after Saturday’s fixture was once again postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The pitch issue is becoming a concern with too many games being called off this season, but I’m sure the club are working on resolving this issue to ensure we don’t encounter the same problems next season, as they will be feeling the effect of the drop in attendances.
On the pitch, Airdrie secured their play-off place with a 2-0 victory over champions Ross County last week and must now look to push on and secure second place. With Alloa, who Airdrie have beaten three times already this season, moving into fourth spot at the weekend, it’s vital we take advantage of the two home games we have this week to ensure second spot and give ourselves the best possible chance of promotion.
Victory over Cowdenbeath - who will be concined to a play-off of a different nature if they lose - would put us 5 points ahead of Raith with a better goal difference and with just 6 points left to play for that should be enough. However, the playoffs are all about momentum and it’s important we enter them in as positive a run as possible.
Last weeks victory - albeit against a Ross County side with nothing to play for - was a much improved performance and Kenny Black will be looking for more of the same on Tuesday.
Kevin McDonald returns from suspension and will likely win his place back, despite the impressive showing of Marco Andreoni and Graeme Holmes against County. Steven McKenna and Ricky Waddell should both also come back into contention.
On another positive note Kids admission prices have been reduced to £2.00 again. Kenny is quoted on the official site as saying he noticed a number of the kids from the coaching classes this week were there on Wednesday. Hopefully this step and another victory will keep them coming back.
