Airdrie United 1 - 2 Brechin City
Airdrie United turned in a dreadful performance on Saturday to earn a result which has all but ended our hopes of catching Ross County and winning the Second Division title.
Not a single player earned passmarks from this one. Collectively as a team and individually, we were awful and showed absolutely no urgency, no imagination and no fight or spirit.
We lack creativity in the middle of the park and we also lack the necessary dig which can in so many instances make up for a lack of flair and skill.
Too many players don’t seem to care enough about the club and already seem to have accepted that the league title will be heading to Dingwall.
Too many players refuse to take any responsibility to try and grab the game by the scruff of the neck (I will excuse Kevin McDonald and Stuart Noble from this actually) and make something happen and are instead content to pass the buck and take the easy option.
There won’t be a match report this week because I feel this “report” does more justice to what we saw - this was our worst performance of the season, the game was absolutely dreadful.
In fairness, performance wise it wasn’t much different from last week at Cowdenbeath but at this level, you’ll win some games even playing this badly - just not enough.
With resources stretched to the limit, you can’t really blame Kenny Black for the current situation. He’s not the one hitting the first man with every set piece, kicking a ball out the park when a 5 yard pass would make much more sense or not giving his all on the pitch.
We are not out the title race yet, but we do now need to win every game. The thing that annoys me so much is that we ARE capable as a team of doing that - we simply don’t work hard enough and as a result, we get what we deserve.
