Airdrie draw Celtic in Scottish Cup
Airdrie have been handed a massive incentive to beat Kilmarnock in the re-arranged Scottish Cup tie after they were drawn out of the hat to face Scottish champions Celtic for the next round.
Now, assuming the First Minister wasn’t anywhere near the draw and this IS actually the correct lineup, it makes the Killie match even more significant.
Since re-forming as Airdrie United, we have not had one money spinning cup tie against a major SPL side. Even last years visit of Motherwell - while fairly lucrative - was not in the same ballpark as getting a match against the Old Firm.
A match against Celtic would bring in much needed revenue to the kitty and would give us a real chance to invest further in the playing squad - adding perhaps 2-3 new players until the end of the season which, given our threadbare squad, could be the difference between promotion and another season in Division One.
Killie are certainly beatable opposition - especially at home and given their poor form compared to our own - we should be looking at beating them next Tuesday.
While I would not want the board to spend money that we don’t yet have to bring players in - if we had been holding off bringing any players in until later in the month, it would make sense to get them on board now to give us the best possible chance of beating Killie.
Our midfield certainly lacks depth with only Kevin McDonald an available recognized central midfielder. Names like Martin Hardie and Davie Nicholls have been mentioned and that seems to be exactly the type of robust central midfielder we need to fill the void left by Steven McKeown.
With the very real possibility of our match against Celtic being the live Sky TV fixture, bringing in additional revenue, we need ALL of our fans to turn out against Killie next Tuesday to give the team proper backing.

I can’t wait for the scores to come up on sky sports saying Airdrie 1 Killie 0.
