McLaren on trial with Derry City

Former Airdrie United winger Willie McLaren is currently on trial with Irish Premier Division outfit Derry City. McLaren, who has just been released from St Johnstone, had been widely tipped to make a return to Airdrie in the transfer window.
The left wing star has suffered a difficult time since moving to St Johnstone but would certainly have been worth a gamble to add much needed attacking flair to Airdrie’s promotion bid.
Injuries to Steven McDougall and a fresh injury setback to Graeme Holmes have left Airdrie lacking creativity in midfield and McLaren’s pace and goalscoring threat would have been a welcome boost.
However, he scored in Derry’s friendly victory over Ballymena and reports from Ireland suggest that he will sign for them this week.
